Alman - Robert Johnson (c1583-1633)

Son of the lutenist to Elizabeth I, Robert Johnson apprenticed in the family business and served in the courts of James VI and I, Prince Henry, and Charles I. In addition to composition duties for courtly entertainments and his consort work with other lutenists, Johnson composed music for the King’s Men, a theatrical company whose venues included The Blackfriars Theater and The Globe Theatre performing the plays of Ben Johnson, John Fletcher, and William Shakespeare.
