about

The Maid That Sold Her Barley - Traditional

This song first appeared in printed form as “Cold and Raw” and was well known due to its inclusion in Thomas d’Urfey’s popular ‘Wit and Mirth: Or Pills to Purge Melancholy’, a vast song collection published between 1698 and 1720. Many variations of the text have been matched to different tunes in England, Scotland, and Ireland over the ensuing centuries.
